Welcome to the Ink Heist podcast, which is devoted to dark genre fiction, featuring hosts Rich Duncan, Shane Douglas Keene, Laurel Hightower and a whole bevy of authors and other interesting guests for your listening and enlightening pleasure. We are a very irreverent, often linguistically explicit broadcast so we highly recommend you use discretion when listening around easily influenced young ones or anyone who is easily offended. We would like to thank the band Secret Smoker for allowing us to use their song “Crushed by Air” to kick-off and finish the podcast.
This week we have a very special episode as we welcome Eboni Dunbar and Caitlin Starling to the show to discuss their novellas Stone and Steel and Yellow Jessamine, which are both out now through Neon Hemlock Press. We were lucky enough to read both of these stellar novellas ahead of publication and if you’re a fan of speculative fiction, you need both of these on your shelves. Dunbar’s debut novella transports readers to the city of Titus where General Aaliyah must rally her allies to protect the city she calls home from the injustice brought by stone mage Queen Odessa. It’s an impressive novel filled with memorable characters, impressive world building, and tons of action. Yellow Jessamine is the latest novel from Caitlin Starling and is a Gothic story centered around Lady Evelyn Perdanu, whose town Delphinium is plagued by an unnerving sickness that plunges Perdanu’s life into terror and paranoia. Both of these novellas are absolute page turners that will grip you right from the first page. Throughout the course of the episode, we talked about Stone and Steel, Yellow Jessamine, FIYAH Literary Magazine and FIYAH Con, Neon Hemlock, graphic novel memoirs, fantasy world-building in Fantasy, poisons and so much more. We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did! Interested in attending the virtual FIYAH Con? Be sure to register at the link ahead of the event on October 17-18.
