Carpenter's Farm

Interlude #2: For Ever but not Forever

Poetry Inspired by Carpenter’s Farm – A Serial Novel By Josh Malerman

Interlude #2: For Ever but not Forever

The concrete is red, I am
one with it, the concrete,
and the red, too, for that
matter

I fell through the darkness of
one last silent pause
for what seemed like forever—
forgetting what can’t be
forgotten–
so long I thought I might
land softly, I fell, not really
deceived, nor disappointed
by the deafening crunch
of my own final breaking,
my release from what
just
cannot
be…
