Carpenter's Farm

Interlude #1

Poetry Inspired by Carpenter’s Farm – A Serial Novel By Josh Malerman

Interlude #1

what do we think of Carpenter’s Farm,
of the changes in Olly?

(we don’t even know him yet)

what do we think?
better question yet to ask, what the
hell do we know? we’re seeing from the
viewpoints of thespians, so the pictures
coming back are
eccentric, but mostly what
they believe is real

we’re at a waypoint,
that’s easy to see, this is
where you should save your game

the rightness is all wrong,
easy again

we think there was a figure beneath
the trees,
(who is The Farmer?)
or was it a sheen of alcohol lust
across an addict’s vision?

every answer leads to another three
questions and we really
know nothing yet

there’s something about the place
that scares the locals,
the place is freaky, but who will
say why? it’s sleek, well-kept, and it
seems to be a house without a story

that feels like the biggest
subterfuge of all.

Let’s read on…
